Seymour and Ethel Roth

I was born in Brooklyn and went to Thomas Jefferson High School. In 1951, I was drafted into the Army and served two years in the Korean War. When I came home, I went to NYU under the GI Bill, graduated as an accountant and built a career in finance. I was a director at a bank when I met Ethel, my secretary. We've been married for 64 years and don't have any kids. We love ballroom dancing and Broadway shows. We're also world travelers and have been on over 100 cruises. We first came to Miami on our honeymoon in 1957, returned and purchased a home in Surfside. We also lived on Washington Street in South Beach for awhile. I was elected councilman in Bal Harbour in 2009 and served until 2012 when I became assistant mayor. From 2014 to 2017, I was mayor of the Village of Bal Harbour.

My mother and stepfather, Silvia and Theodore Solomon, lived at Miami Jewish Health years ago. We would visit them every Sunday and get ice cream at the May Center. I'll never forget the outstanding care they received by the entire staff. It inspired us to become donors and contribute as much as we could. Their experience motivated Ethel and me to move to Miami Jewish Health in July 2021. The service is great, the food is good and the onsite entertainment and concerts are wonderful. We love the beautiful grounds and pool area. Plus, the people are great. We love the camaraderie.

We named Miami Jewish Health as a beneficiary of our trust to help make life better for others. It also inspired us to recommend others to Miami Jewish Health and encourage them to become donors.
